Pointless, heavy periods are a common problem that affects nearly 1 in 5 women. The signs of heavy bleeding are most likely to start between the ages of 30 and 40. Please note: Minerva is only for women who do not want to have children in the future.

What is Minerva?

Minerva is a one-time, safe, effective, and quick treatment that removes the lining of your uterus. The procedure is designed to help reduce heavy bleeding and help you regain control of your periods. The treatment is done here in the comfort of Parkhill.

How does the Minerva system work?

The Minerva System works by destroying the endometrium (lining of the uterus) with heat. This tissue is the source of heavy bleeding in women who have not reached menopause. Minerva is only for women who do not want to have children in the future.

How long does the treatment take?

The Minerva treatment lasts only 3-4 minutes! This gentle-natured treatment may be performed in the Parkhill office with minimal discomfort and in little time.

What is considered to be heavy or excessive menstrual bleeding?

A period with bleeding totaling over ⅓ cup (80ml) is considered to be heavy or excessive. If you have to change your sanitary protection frequently, excessive menstrual bleeding might be the cause.

Is there long-term side effects to having to uterine lining?

There are no long-term side effects associated with the reduction or removal of the uterine lining.

Who should NOT have this treatment?
The Minerva System should not be used in patients who have, or had, the following conditions:

  • Currently pregnant or wants to become pregnant in the future. PREGNANCY AFTER ABLATION CAN BE DANGEROUS FOR BOTH THE MOTHER AND UNBORN BABY.
  • Known or suspected cancer of the uterus.
  • Any weakness of the uterus wall. This may be due to past surgeries or long-term use of some medications. Talk to your doctor for more information.
  • Had an endometrial ablation in the past. Repeat ablation can cause serious injury.
  • Current infection, for example of the uterus, ovaries, bladder or other organs. This procedure should not be used if you have an infection. Any infection must heal before the ablation procedure can be scheduled.
  • Intrauterine device (IUD) in the uterus. Patient must agree to remove the IUD before the treatment.
  • Patients with Essure. It is not known whether the Minerva procedure is safe and effective in patients with the Essure procedure.
  • A patient with a very small uterus should not have this treatment because it might result in injury. Your doctor will measure your uterus to see if it is too short or too narrow for the Minerva procedure.

After experiencing menopause, undergoing breast cancer treatments, or having a hysterectomy, women may develop genitourinary symptoms such as: dryness, irritation, or painful intercourse. MonaLisa Touch is an FDA-approved laser treatment which helps improve vaginal health at a cellular level. MonaLisa Touch can improve a woman’s self-confidence and sexual pleasure through the restoration of the vagina tissue. This helps to fight most symptoms related to vaginal weakening – a common issue among both pre and post-menopausal women.

What is MonaLisa Touch?

The MonaLisa Touch treatment takes less than five minutes and uses a laser that gently emits controlled energy to stimulate collagen production. The laser stimulates collagen production in the vaginal canal for the re-hydration and organic restoration of tissue which results in healthier vaginal tissue.

The procedure is quick, pain-free, and doesn’t require an anesthetic. There is no hormone therapy, no downtime, and it’s long-lasting. Your obstetrician/gynecologist can perform the procedure in-office. MonaLisa Touch patients will receive three treatments, six weeks apart.

Typically, patients will receive 3 initial treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. After that, an annual Mona Lisa may be recommended.

Why should I have the MonaLisa Touch treatment?

Even with the passage of time, many women still retain their youthful energy and enthusiasm, but post-menopausal changes can affect a woman’s quality of life in unexpected ways. Hormone replacement therapy may not be the best option for some of patients, as treatment outcomes can be uncertain. Now there is an alternative therapy for vaginal revitalization that can help millions of women who are silently suffering and unable to undergo other treatment options.

How does it work?

MonaLisa Touch is a medical laser that delivers controlled energy to the vaginal tissue to revitalize the cells in the vaginal mucosa (vaginal tissue) so that these cells make more collagen, an essential ingredient in vaginal cell health.

Treatment implements CO2 laser energy that is delivered via a side-firing probe inserted into the vaginal canal. A two-part pulse targets surface (epithelial) tissue and deep (lamina propria) tissue to promote vaginal mucosal revitalization.

Where can I have this treatment done?

The MonaLisa Touch is an in-office procedure performed by an obstetrician/gynecologist. Parkhill offers this procedure in-office.

When will I see results?

Most patients feel improvement after the very first treatment, although the procedure calls for three treatments generally spaced over a 12-week period.

Who should have the MonaLisa Touch procedure?

The MonaLisa Touch is appropriate for any female who has gone through menopause. In addition, those who are experiencing post-menopausal symptoms as a result of a hysterectomy or breast cancer treatments would benefit from MonaLisa Touch treatments.
